Green Man Festival is a medium sized festival trying to bear an eco message wherever possible. This year the festival runs from 17th-19th August. The festival has traditionally been seen as a folk festival, but recent years have shaped it into a family friendly festival. It is one of the few festivals to take place in Wales and is located in Glanusk Park, Usk Valley, Powys. Green Man takes place across the traditional 4 days, Thursday – Sunday, and plays host to 10,000 festival goers. The festival incorporates folk, indie and psychedelia music with literature, film, comedy, wellbeing and even special children’s areas. The children’s area is unlike any standardized soft play area, rather the opposite. It is a creative area that is welcome to anyone under the age of 18 and offers the opportunity to try out DJ’ing, music producing, to be part of a film crew or even join the circus!
Past headliners have included Jarvis Cocker, The Doves, Robert Plant and The Flaming Lips. Further acts have included the folktastic Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver, Darwin Deez, Seasick Steve, Billy Bragg and Laura Marling. This year the festival brings in its 10 year anniversary and so far has announced Feist, The Walkmen, The Felice Brothers, Yann Tierson, Jonathan Richman, Junior Boys, Damien Jurado, The Time & Space Machine, Cass Mccombs and Slow Club. A further two headliners will be announced soon along with over 100 more acts. The festival also offers the opportunity for one lucky act to open the festival through its competition Green Poll. The act will be voted for by the public and then short listed for a final which will take place in Camden, London. Green Man have not yet announced the competition dates.

As hinted at from the name, the festival tries to be ‘green’ in any way it can. The ‘Green Bus’ is in operation from all main UK cities along with a free shuttle bus service that runs from the local train station right, Abergevanny, to the site making it easier than ever for people to use public transport.
By Coach: The festival recommend using National Express which will travel directly to the site. The coaches drop off on Thursday 16th August and pick up on Monday 20th August. They also offer a complete package which includes coach travel, admission and camping for £170.50 (adults) or £151.50 (students).
By Train: The nearest station is Abergevanny and the festival operates a free shuttle service from the station to the site between 8am – 11pm on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th August. The service resumes all day Sunday and until lunchtime on Monday 20th to return people back to the station. Visit National Rail for further information on dates, times, and ticket prices.
By Car: Green Man encourage the use of car sharing and suggest using gocarshare to find people to share transport with through the journey across the Brecon Beacons. Car parking will be charged at £5 per car, which can be bought either on the gate or through their website now. Click here for directions.
